Located in Plano, Texas, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a 200-acre park including a 3-mile unpaved hiking trail, a 3-mile paved hiking trail, a 2.8 mile off-road bike trail, a covered pavilion, a playground, and restrooms. The park contains three main regions, including the Blackland Prairie, Riparian Forest, and the Upland Forest. Animals that inhabit the park include killdeer, owls, woodpeckers, scissor-tailed flycatcher, deer, snakes, bobcats, turtles, coyotes, fish, and rabbits, among others. The pavilion can also be reserved for special events.

When the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers damned Denton Creek, Grapevine Lake was impounded in 1952 by a tributary of Trinity River. Like most reservoirs, this reservoir’s primary purposes include flood control, along with acting as a municipal water reservoir, with an additional, secondary function of providing open spaces for recreation.
